Tax Deduction of Donations

Your donation may be tax deductible!

Your donations to Hasene reach those in need in Austria and around the world, and the state contributes: Your donations are tax deductible as personal expenses. Hasene is registered with the Ministry of Finance in the list of institutions accepting donations under number SO 20568 .

How does it work?
Your donation reduces your taxable income. Depending on your tax rate, a portion of your donation will be returned to you through your annual tax refund (Arbeitnehmerveranlagung or income tax return).

The important point is this: The tax deduction is not a deduction from the donation amount . Your donation reaches those in need; the tax advantage is a benefit provided to you by the state through its own tax system . You don't need to collect receipts. Hasene reports the total amount of your donations for the year to the tax office by the end of February of the following year, and the amount is automatically added to your tax return.

How low can we sink?
Individuals can deduct up to 10% of their annual income, and companies can deduct up to 10% of their annual profits as donations from their taxes.

How can I include my donation in my tax deduction?

Hasene submits the total amount of your donations for a calendar year to the tax authorities by the end of February of the following year. This amount is automatically included as a special expense in your employee tax assessment or income tax return. You no longer need to enter the donation manually.

For this, we only ask the following from you once:

  • First and last name (as stated as "Meldezettel" in your official registration document)

  • Date of birth

Please send this information by email to info@hasene.at , by post to Hasene Hilfs- und Sozialverein, Gudrunstraße 115/1, 1100 Vienna, or contact us by phone at +43 1 890 13 07. For online donations, you can enter your information directly into your Hasene account or on the donation form .

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this affect me?

If you wish to benefit from a tax deduction for your donations, please indicate so. Those who do not wish to do so should not donate at all.

What should I pay attention to regarding my name?

Your name must be written in full, as it appears on your registration document, without any abbreviations or shortened names. Double names must be written in full, including the hyphen. Please pay particular attention to special characters (e.g., ç, ş, ğ, ü, ö, ć, č) so that the tax office can correctly allocate your donation.

Why do you need my date of birth?

Your date of birth is used solely to uniquely identify you to the tax authorities and prevent confusion with people of the same name. Hasene does not use it for any other purpose.

We're making a joint donation from our family account. What happens now?

Donations can only be claimed as a tax deduction by one person. Please specify to whom the donation should be attributed and provide that person's name and date of birth.

I've already submitted my information. Is there anything else I need to do?

No. Your data will be stored, and all future donations will be automatically notified.

Can I write my date of birth on the payment receipt?

Given that payment reference information is not always transmitted completely or accurately by banks, we do not recommend this. It is best if you send your information to us via email, mail, or phone.

When do I have to make my donation for it to be valid for this year?

The crucial factor is that the donation reaches Hasene by December 31st. Donations received after this date will be counted towards the following year's donations.

I submitted my information too late. What can I do?

However, please contact us. We can send the notification retroactively. If your tax assessment has already been completed, it will usually be corrected automatically. Otherwise, you can appeal the assessment within the legal timeframe.

Who is responsible for employee tax assessments?

The tax office or the Federal Ministry of Finance is responsible for the assessment. We would be happy to assist you with any questions regarding your declared donations. You can also view your declared donations via FinanzOnline.
